ACTIVITIES

Project timeline

WP1 - PRELIMINARY STUDIES

In the first activity, with a duration of 5 months, the body of information accumulated in the newFACE project (essentially between 2012-2013) will be strengthened, complementing and updating it with an in-depth review of the state of the art, directed by the differentiating characteristics of the UTILITY product concept.
The activity is grouped around four tasks, the first of which applies to all and deals with updating the elements related to the Operation, Market and Certification context, and the other three are focussed on the thematic lines explored by the project: Flight and Operation, Usability and Versatility and Processes and Materials.
Almadesign is responsible for the Activity with the leader for each task detailed in their respective descriptions. In addition, this activity will have the support of experts from Embraer S.A., selected in terms of the specific theme of each task.

WP2 - TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION

In this activity, which lasts 4 months, the identification of missions, markets and users of the UTILITY concept will be refined by using the results of the newFACE project as a reference and validating and/or complementing them with Activity 1’s results. This definition will be the basis for the requirement specification of the Utility product concept, necessary to meet the identified missions and potential markets. The activity will also result in the specification for the study tools to be developed during the project in order to meet the desired knowledge gain in each thematic line. In particular: for the flight (UAV requirements necessary to validate the configuration of the Utility product concept), mock-up (validation criteria as a usability and versatility tool), and also for processes and materials (the requirements of material properties studies and those of the processes and materials demonstrator as solutions for sustainable industrialization).
Embraer Portugal is in charge of the activity, with the leader for each task detailed in their respective descriptions. The activity will be supported by a specialist from Embraer S.A. who will participate in the critical review of the specifications of the various tasks.

WP3 - CONCEPT DEFINITION

In this 10 month long activity, the requirements defined in the previous activity will be transformed into the final configuration of the Utility product concept, addressing its general flight configuration, the interior concept and the materials and processes for production. The most promising solutions will be selected for each of the thematic lines for demonstration and validation in subsequent activities.
IST is responsible for the Activity, with the leaders for each task detailed in their respective descriptions.

WP4 - DEVELOPMENT

In this 10 month long activity, there will be the necessary development to the materialization of the study tools of the various thematic lines of the project.
INEGI is responsible for the activity is, with the leaders for each task detailed in their respective descriptions. The activity will be attended by a specialist from Embraer S.A. to monitor the project and analyse and provide a critical evaluation of the results.

WP5 - PROTOTYPE CONSTRUCTION

In this activity, with a duration of 13 months, the various demonstrators of each of the project’s thematic lines will be constructed, namely, a UAV, a 1:1 mock-up of the cabin module, and a materials and production process demonstrator. Each of these demonstrators corresponds to a specific task described below. It is worth emphasizing that, throughout the course of this Activity, moulds and necessary tools for the construction of the prototypes and demonstrator will be constructed.
The responsibility for the Activity is with SETsa, with the leaders for each task detailed in their respective descriptions. Embraer S.A. specialists will participate in this activity to monitor the manufacturing of the various demonstrators.

WP6 - TESTING AND VALIDATION

In this activity, with a duration of 10 months, the results of the previous activities will be evaluated, from which the future development of integration and advanced demonstration projects for the Utility product concept will be structured. There will be a task dedicated to each of the three thematic lines and a final all-encompassing task of integrating the evaluations and structuring of proposals for future studies in view of bringing the Utility product to fruition. Embraer Portugal S.A. is responsible for the activity, with the leaders for each task detailed in their respective descriptions. This activity will be attended by a specialist from Embraer S.A. to perform a critical analysis of the results and participate in the joint definition of potential future studies.

WP7 - PUBLICATION AND PROMOTION

In this activity, which will take place throughout the project, the intention is to generate material to support the promotion and communication of the project. It is also expected to publicize the activities as they are carried out, either through the preparation of publications or participation in fairs or trade shows. This activity is organized into five tasks, described below. The entity responsible for the activity is Almadesign, and each task counts on participation and contribution from all consortium members.

WP8 - TECHNICAL PROJECT MANAGEMENT

The last proposed activity runs throughout the entire project and oversees the technical project management. The responsibility lies with the FLEXCRAFT project leader – SETsa.
